Flute 1 Full vs SE

Hi,

I'm trying to understand if I need a few full instruments. Since I have both the Full and SE versions of Flute 1, I tried to compare it in its two incarnations.

The sequence is absolutely rough, just an assembling of scraps. Appoggiatura and dynamics could have been done, with the Full version, with dynamic articulations. However, I wanted to test the essentials.

What do you think? Is there any difference? (Missing articulations, for example portato long, are for sure one; the MP3 compression should however contribute to minimize them).

While the previous examples were recorded with dynamics controlled by Velocity + Expression, these two are all Velocity XFade. The difference increases, probably due to the increased number of dynamic layers in the full version.

Hi Paolo

You have a sample for every two notes with SE-libraries while the full libraries contain a sample for each halfe tone.

The sound quality of the same sample is the same with Full and SE.

And yes, you get much more (some times important) articulations with a full librarie.

As an example: Music without the possibility of a diminuendo is no music... ;-). Keep in Mind that a real played diminuendo sounds much more natural than a sustain note which has got a "fade out" via volume and/or X-velocity...

Beat, thank you very much for your answer. Yes, the increased realism of recorded dynamics is what makes the full libraries needed when aiming at credible rendition of scores. Paolo
