  • French Oboe vs Viennese Oboe

    Hi,

While I have both oboes in the SE edition, I'm thinking to get one of the full instruments for more flexibility. I'm very undecided between the two instruments.

I know the French Oboes is the "standard" model, outside of Vienna. At the same time, I like the Viennese sound more. I also think how useful it can be for Baroque-age pieces. But I fear that when having to create a modern piece requiring a "standard", more piercing sound, I could lack the needed sound. Do you think they can be used in the same situations, or are they too far in sound and technique?

Vibrato was not included in the original release of the Viennese Oboe. Is it there, now? I see there is mention of a "progressive vibrato", but I can't understand if this is true sustain vibrato, or just a passage.

Also, I can't understand if the one or the other has some technical advantages as far as sampling is concerned. They seem to both sound very good, but I would like to hear any opinion from people who have been using both.

    Thank you!

    Paolo
