  • [Solved] MIR Pro In Reaper Error

    Hello,

I am trying to use MIR Pro in the Reaper DAW. I have it installed and the VST is picked up by Reaper. I add MIR Pro to a track FX and MIR Pro opens but I have an error regarding channels mismatch.

I followed the directions to force channels matching but it is already showing the maximum of 8. I tried different settings without success.

Can anyone please advise what I need to do for this to work. I have read that there are people here using MIR with Reaper so there must be a way to set this up.

    Thanks.

  • What happens when you don't force MIR Pro to open in a certain channel-width?

    Hello Dietz,

    Thank you for your reply.

This is the error message I have in Reaper.

When I first add MIR Pro to a track effects this is what is showing. Please note the "8 channels' which doesn't show in other DAWS.

The channels set in MIR Pro. I have tried changing these but MIR Pro still doesn't load.

I'm not entirely clear about forcing those channels. Should this be done before loading MIR Pro into a track FX and is this then done in the standalone first or can this be done directly in the track FX.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Sorry if I'm a bit slow - but I still don't understand why you need a 8-channel configuration. Do you plan to work in 7.1 surround, or a similar format?

... right now, MIR Pro desperately tries to open a 8-channel instance in an environment that seems to be stereo. That's why I would suggest to disable the "Force Output Channel" number preference and let MIR choose the proper channel width based on DAW's channel setting.

BTW: Under normal circumstances, MIR shouldn't be set up as a send-FX, but as an insert on every instrument's channel. :-)

    Kind regards,

    Hello Dietz,

Apologies, I hadn't explained things clearly.

When I first tried to open MIR Pro in Reaper, it was the default settings; I didn't change a thing. I did place it directly in an audio track FX. MIR Pro did open but the track instrument (Violin) was not loaded although I was able to select a room.

I went back to the Reaper audio track and clicked on the FX and then I had an error message.

I searched the forums for help and found the thread where you advised to force a channel so I tried that but that didn't work either.

I've now followed your advice and deselected the force channel and retried. Once again I have the error message at the top of this post.

I have read of other people here using MIR Pro with Reaper so it obviously works and I'm just missing something.

    Thanks for your help.

    Best wishes.

  • The error message you see indicates that another instance of MIR Pro has been added to your project already, with another channel width. The first instance always determines the format MIR Pro will work in. - And as a matter of fact, Reaper's "FX3" window" still says "8ch" in your screenshot ... 8-/

Just for testing, please start a new project in Reaper from scratch and add MIR Pro as an insert to a stereo channel. If this doesn't work, please get in contact with support@vsl.co.at . I assume that the VSL's support team has some knowledge to share about Reaper as a host (I don't, sorry to say so).

    Kind regards,

    Hello Dietz,

I'm pleased to let you know that I have resolved the problem. 😃

It seems that my Firewall had started blocking Reaper from connecting to MIR Pro! I changed the setting and everything worked. MIR Pro is now opening in Reaper, loading the instruments and working its magic.

    I've marked this thread 'Solved.

Thank you again for your excellent support. 👍

    Best wishes,

    Michael

  • I'm happy to hear that you're up and running now, Michael. But actually, your Firewall shouldn't interfere with MIR Pro at all - assuming that we're talking about the DAW-hosted plug-in version.
