  • "The Arrival" clarinet & string quartet - dedicated to a baby on the way!

David wrote "The Arrival" for clarinet and string quartet as a musical response to the news that we're going to have our first child!  It embodies the anxiety, anticipation, excitement, and joy when you realize you're about to be a new parent. :)

He wrote it back in January but had to wait for me to fix up the parts in the DAW which I just finished now.  At least I got it done before the baby is born haha!

We only have the standard libraries for the clarinet and solo strings.  As a clarinetist I'm pretty happy with how the VSL clarinet sounds although it took a lot of keyswitch and vel-xfade manipulation to get it to this point.  I plan to record this at some point - it will be fun to see how the sounds compare.

  • Before anything else: congratulations Becky and David!

  • Congratulations, Becky and David! Nice to hear the music and indeed, the clarinet sounds good.

  • Congratulations Becky and David with the good news and the lovely quartet with a very nice clarinet(part). Indeed, you've managed to catch all the (mixed) feelings with such delightful tiding.
And keep in mind that soon you'll have another thrilling instrument for which Becky won't have to program anything in any DAW. It will sing its own song at appropriate and functional loudness telling you about its feelings and emotions in an uncomparable register...

Enjoy the moment and the period of that happy expectation!

  • Thank you, Fabio and MMKA for the well wishes! Thanks Max, for both the musical comments and your brilliant words on parenthood :). By the way, i thoroughly enjoyed Pierlala and appreciate the painstaking efforts to create an expansive orchestral work as such. You've been a helpful mentor with your suggestions over the past couple of years, so it's nice for me to have the chance to enjoy your fine music. All the best, David
