  • Latest VEP6 update causing serious Cubase hangs

    Hi,

    I'm experiencing serious Cubase hang problems after updating VEP6 to the latest version today (15.3.2017), on both OS X and Windows.

    After the updates, Cubase has started hanging almost every 15 minutes or less. Before the VEP6-update, I've experienced a Cubase hang perhaps once a week. The only thing that has changed in the past few weeks is the VEP6 update today. 

    I would appreciate any workaround to downgrade to the previous working situation, as it's near to impossible to work now with this combination. My questions:

    a) Can I downgrade to an earlier working version of VEP6 - are the binaries somewhere downloadable?

    b) Is there anything else that could help solve the hanging problem?

    I've used Cubase and VEP for a couple of years now without any major issues. I've installed all the previous VEP5&VEP6 updates without problems, so I didn't hesitate updating to this one either. It seems that might've been a mistake this time.

    I'm running VEP servers on both Windows and OS X hosts, in both 32-bit and 64-bit mode. I haven't had problems with any combination prior to this update. Though I can't prove it's VEP6 update, it is the only changed thing in many weeks, and the hanging started immediately after the updates. I've since rebooted computers, updated all possible plugins, and updated Cubase to 8.5.30, with no luck. The hanging seems random, but seems to be related to starting playing or stopping in Cubase. Seems that when VEP6 VST-plugins are not connected, the crashing does not occur, but I'm not 100% sure as I've needed the connections to work at all.

    I've loved VEP so far, but I will have nightmares of this day for a long time.

    Any help or info on similar experiences is highly appreciated, thank you!

    Sorry to hear about that.

    a) Yes, you can get the previous version in the Software Archive.

    b) We'll have to analyze the hang... Can you please send us a sample from the hang? support@vsl.co.at

    => Open Activity Monitor
    => Choose Vienna Ensemble PRO
    => Click the small "i" in the upper left corner
    => Click "Sample" in the lower left corner
    => Save the file and send it to us
