  • Minimun spec for Master (VEPro 5)

    Hello, I'm a noob here.

    - 2 slave quad core PCs running full orchestra templates.

    - Master computer will run only VEPro plugins.

What would be the minimum spec for VEPro master?

  • Welcome Kenny,

I'm afraid the answer is: It depends.

    On quite some factors, actually:

    1) How many audio tracks will you be sending back to your sequencer (less channels means less strain on your master computer)?
    2) Which sequencer will you be using, on which OS?
    3) Which latency do you expect/accept?

If you will be "just" sending MIDI to your slaves and all the mixing is done on your slave computers, you will be fine with a not-so-fast computer (I'd pick the nicest your budget allows).

If your slave computers are quick enough, why not make one of them the master computer?

Thanks for sharing more information there!

    Best,
    Paul

Thank you for your kind reply, Paul. I found some answers from your reply. 😊

Currently, I'm running Cubase with VE Pro 5 on a i5-2500k PC. But as my preference is <macOS master + slave PCs>, I'm finding the way to use my 13-inch Macbook Pro (2013 late running OS X 10.11) with the Cubase 8 Pro as the sequencer.

In fact, I didn't know that mixing can be done on the slave computer. I think I should find the way how to control the VE Pro 5 audio channels from the host sequencer. It would be very grateful if you give me some idea (examples, resource, ...) about how to get the mixes done solely on slave computers.

    1) Around 20-30 stereo channels and (5 woodwinds, 4-7 brasses, 5 strings and 4-8 percussions) EW Spaces for master reverb, if possible.
    2) Cubase Pro 8 on 13" dual-core Macbook Pro with OS X 10.11 (El Capitan)
    3) I'm expecting less than 512 sample buffers on 48kHz

Again, it would be very grateful for me if you give me some ideas on the situation. 😊

    Thank you in advance.
