  • VEpro Standalone, the neglected child? :-)

Since Madi cards have been available - especially the powerful RME Madi FX with 3 Madi streams - every other year I come up with the idea of investigating a composing template with VEpro standalone. Don't get me wrong! VEpro works pretty well and reliable for me. But every now and then there are problems, which cost time and effort to solve. However, this time, with VEpro 6 I got the feeling, the standalone version is not as well taken care of as the network version. My main problem is the missing tabbed view, which really helps a lot to find your way around in a big template. Why is this not available in standalone? I realize, there can only be one instance available to access the sound card. But wouldn't it be possible to still have tabs available within that instance? Dear folks from VSL, please consider this! Another thing is, it would be great to be able to access the virtual midi ports of the server version in standalone. Audio via Ethernet is something that is open for a lot of problems, but midi over LAN is very stable, so, it would be great to be able to use that part of it. Lastly, it would be great to have some midi modifiers in front of the VSTi available in both standlone and server version. There simply is no way to alter or filter incoming midi with one approach for all brands of VSTi. E.g., with Kontakt, I got the multiscript to do that, but with Vienna instruments, EW play and most other VSTis there is no way to do it.This could just be a slot for a midi plugin, where you can use various modules to choose from. Ideally, it would be something that is scriptable, as scripting opens a huge world of customizations - just like the Kontakt multiscript.
