  • String machine RAM useage

    Hi,

I didn't want to crash someone elses thread so I'm starting a new one.  I'm planning some systems and would like to ask the opinions of the other users.

As projects get more sophiticated / busy would 32 GB RAM be enough to utilise all the titles underneath on one machine without running into problems using all the RAM.

Like mentioned above I'm planning some systems so if in time I'd run out of steam then I could plan a more potent machine in it's place - 😃

    SOLO STRINGS I - SOLO STRINGS II - SOLO VIOLIN 2 - SOLO CELLO 2 - CHAMBER STRINGS I & II - ORCHESTRAL STRINGS I & II - APPASSIONATA STRINGS I - APPASSIONATA STRINGS II - SOLO CELLO - UPRIGHT BASS

Some of the folks here may do something similar and be able to comment - I've heard with different mic positions etc... the RAM can be used up quite easily but would 32 GB do here for these titles without any work arounds.

I dare say alot of the time it may be just fine but sometimes maybe not if projects are bigger - I can work round with templates that are smaller but in real use over time ? - I'd use SSD's btw - Thanks

    Hi,

So - 😛 - Nobody knows anything about this then 😕 - What is the maximum RAM other users have used on a string only machine for real world use? - Not including huge templates but actual patches used.

I do have VEP5 and am planning to buy some libraries at some point so this information is quite important - Thank you very much - 👍

    Hi fraz,

So I loaded all the VI PRO Presets for these instruments into VI PRO, with the smalles pre-load size (SSD drives), and it tool around 2 GB RAM (more than 300.000 Samples).

The Dimension Strings I&II will add around 3-4 GB more RAM Load.

That's with ALL available samples doe the strings loaded in VI PRO (more than 1 million samples!).

The higher the Preload size, the more RAM and time will be needed to load those samples, but I'd sayl, 32 GB is a good number, and you will need VI PRO to make it work this way.

You can purchase bigger RAM modules, so that you're ready to go bigger, when needed.

Also, there are quite a few cool tricks with VI PRO to reduce the sample load (like "Enable Cells on MIDI Activity" in the VE PRO Preferences => which only loads the patches you actually trigger).

    Does that help?

    Best,
    Paul
