  • Repetitions Patch Question

This may be a dumb question, but why not always use the repetitions patch? For example, in Dimension  Brass there is a Portato patch and a Portato repetitions patch. The repetitions patch has (I think) 8 round robins and the regular portato patch has 3. Why not only load the repetitions patch and just always use it? The sound seems to be identical.

Thanks for explaining this for me.

    Hi Paul,

The Performance Repetitions are based on the same thought as the Performance Legato: The transition between notes makes the difference.

When a note is repeated on an instrument, the string is already swinging, the instrument is already filled with air (winds).... so the transition and attack of the next note sounds different.

Compare, e.g., staccatos and performance staccatos, you will hear the difference.

Of course that doesn't mean that you can't use the samples in any way you like 😊

    Best,
    Paul

Now I understand. So the same explanation would appluy to the staccato, portato and legato repetitions also I suppose. Thanks for explaining.

  • Hello Paul,

You're welcome. Yes, that applies to all other Performance Repetitions as well! Very nice to access different velocities are the dynamic Performance Repetitions (available in the Extended Libraries).

    Best,
    Paul
