  • Cubase 9/VEP 6 - Best CPU Practices & Optimisations

Hey everyone, I'm currently moving from Logic Pro X to Cubase 9, mainly to learn the DAW. I always assumed Logic was the poorly optimised of the two, having constant single CPU spikes etc, but Cubase seems to be pretty CPU hungry, even more than my 300 track template.

I'm running on a single machine, Mac Pro 12-core, 64GB RAM, lots of spikes and audible problems at 512 samples with two buffers, Kontakt set to 1 core. All instances in one instance of VEP6. (I don't know if you can change Cubase's Core count?) I used to have Logic on 4 threads.

Does anyone have any tips for better CPU optimisation? Am I supposed have multiple instances like in Logic?

    Thanks everyone.

    J

  • Hi.

I experience best performance when having Kontakts Multiprocesser support turned of (even when hosted in Cubase) and under "Device Setup" in Cubase turn off Active Asio Guard off  when running a big VE template. I use a slave, but I imagine the same thing applies... See if it makes it more stable :)

  • Thanks! This helped a lot! All is working, having a lot of annoying crashes though.. Seems to be when I right-click to access the tools there. Seems to be a Cubase issue though.

I doubt this has anything to do with the problems I'm having, but will opening the VST version of Kontakt respond better with Cubase? I'm using AU versions, just because that what I built my Logic template with.

    Cheers!
