  • Importing the Giga Files into EXS-24 - Disadvantages?

First of all sorry for my bad English, but I'm from Austria and only 16 years old, so commonly I don't have much of training practicing English, after all I want to make music. For myself maths is terrible enough ... [:)]

I really intend to buy the Orchestral Cube (wouldn't it be such expensive), because I am so distressed by libraries like the Vitous or the Siedlaczek's one.
So I have to ask you some simple questions, which I have to face on buying the VSL:

What are the disadvantages I have to count on if I import the VSL into the EXS-24? I have to ask this, because I use a G4 Dual 1.25 GhZ and a PowerBook G4 500 MhZ, but also a Pentium III 733 MHz.
My plan is to use the library on both Macs, but also on the PC. After buying the VSL I want to economize on a faster PC.
So now I don't really know what Version of the Library I should buy... the EXS-24 or Giga one?

I hope you will send me to the right way, because my budget isn't very big, as it's typical for a teenager.
Composition is a real expensive thing and I'm unfortunately not rich.
But maybe I become rich through my compositions - no wealth of materials, but wealth of music!

Thank you for all your suggestions!

    Hans-Peter! (Musicmaster)

  • hello hans-peter,
i would strongly not recommend to import the giga-version into exs at all.
besides this would be weeks of work (and the release-date of the exs-version is near), we recently discovered some naming-issues when importing gigastudio-windows-version on exs-mac and then transferring them back again to exs-windows.
seems to be related to the different character-sets used in macOS9, winX and macOS10 - this will not happen with the exs-edition

  • Thank you for your reply cm!

But one question I still have to ask you:
Is it possible to use the library on a G4 Dual 1.25 GHz and a PowerBook G4 500 MHz?
What are the restrictions of this setup? Is it possible to play a whole Orchestra with this setup?

    Greetings!
    Hans-Peter!

  • your setup should work fine, although you possibly need to get some midi-connection between your macs.
full orchestra: hmm, how many instruments, how many channels, ... this depends on a lot of things - but i'm sure, you have a very good basis to start.
btw: i forgot to mention: exs (os9) is limited to 31 letters in the filenames - the giga-version has some longer ones, so you may loose the value of the notes after importing ...
a roumor says, that a later update for exs can handle this somehow, so maybe you better wait two or three weeks for the exs-version
