  • Velocity Layers and Dynamics between Special Edition, Standard and Full Libraries

I've been making use of Special Edition 1+ and 4 for a good while and I've got my eye on Woodwinds I as an upgrade for the ensembles. I make a lot of use of Velocity X-Fade which works great.

I've searched a lot though, for any information on the velocity layers between instruments/patches across different editions but I haven't yet found enough detail. Hopefully someone can lay it out for me, taking say Flute 1 as an example.

I'm pretty sure the SE edition of Flute 1 has 2 velocity layers (p and fp?) in the perf-legato as an example. What I want to know is:

    • Would I get more layers in the same patch with the Standard Library?
    • Would I get more layers in the same patch with the Extended Library over Standard?
    • Would I get layers above the fp I get with SE perf-legato?
    • Would I get layers below the p I get with SE perf-legato?

It would be helpful to know actual numbers (like Standard gives 2 more, Extended gives 1 more after that).

I'm sorry if this question has already been answered.

    Many thanks!

I believe the answer to questions 1, 3 and 4 are "Yes," but the answer to question 2 is "No." Someone correct me if I am wrong. One of the major advantages of the Standard Library compared to the Special Editions is more velocity layers. I believe the Extended Libraries offer more articulations but not more velocity layers for articulations already included in the Standard edition.

I've found the best way to get detailed information is to email Paul and ask for a manual for the library you are considering. Of course getting a demo license helps as well.

(These answers are based on my understanding from the comments of others. The only Standard Library I own at this time is Percussion.)

  • Hi,

Actually, the Performance Legatos in the Special Editions are the same as in the bigger collections, Extended and Standard Library "only" add more options (also for the Performance Legatos).

    Best,
