  • Life duration of an eLicencer

    Dear all,

I bought my orchestral cube a long time ago, and I'm still using the same eLicencer, which is about 10 years old.

Is there any risk that the eLicenser (which I pamper carefully and is in pristine condition) could break at some point ? Did someone encountered such a bad situation ?

    Best,

  • Hi Jean Louis,

I also have a few very old eLicensers here, and we receive some malfunctioning keys from 2002 on (not many).

My suggestion: Get a new key every 2 years, this way you also have a hardware warranty (and licenses will be replaced free of charge)!

    Best,
    Paul

  • Good advice !

I have bought 4 of them recently, so I'll be dispatching my licences for use with my 3 mac minis + MacBook Pro.

To make sure I understand, by warranty, do you mean the licences would be replaced for free if the key is in the warranty period ?

    That would be huge.

  • A last question, Paul.

The four keys I recently bought are linked to a different account than my libraries licenses. I have two accounts, one for my training center, the other being personal.

Could it be an issue in case of an eLicenser failure if I use the keys registered on my training center account for my personal licences ?

  • Hi again,

In case a ViennaKey is damaged, users have to send it to our office in Vienna (American users: to the office of our distributor ILIO based in California) to enable us to take a look at the kind of the damage. If the damage on the ViennaKey shows signs of external force, he will of course have to pay for the new ViennaKey, and a handling fee for the new licenses (EUR 20 per contained license, minimum fee EUR 30). If a ViennaKey is registered to a user account, it's a lot easier for us to find out which licenses were stored on the Key.

If the ViennaKey breaks within the warranty period (two years) without extraneous cause, the user gets a new ViennaKey and the new license free of charge if he can verify the warranty period by sending us the invoice of the purchase of the ViennaKey or other eLicenser USB Key. That's why we recommend to purchase a new key every two years and to keep the invoice at a safe place.

Ideally, the keys should be registered to the account that contains the licenses that have been downloaded to the key.

If you like, we can sort that out via support@vsl.co.at.

    Best,
    Paul
