  • Kontakt not showing up

    Hi,

I just purchased a PC and I'm tryng to build a template.  I managed to build a nice one in OSX, but I'm completely lost in Windows 10.  This is the first PC I've had so even the basics of Windows is new.

My problem is, Kontakt is not a choice when I go to add it in plugins within VEP 6.  I downloaded Kontakt and can open it up as a standalone.

The other problem is I can load Vienna Instruments within VEP 6, but none of my VSL instruments are listed.  I never had any problems in OSX, everything just seemed to work with all the instruments listed in the left column.  I'm using Cubase on the iMac side.

    Thank you for any suggestions.

    Hello Aaron,

On Windows, you usually install (and therefore organize) your plug-in in "VST plug-in folders".

You will see that you can choose any location when you go through the installation process and read through the different steps.

These VST plug-in folders need to be assigned in every host, so that they can be found.

In VE PRO, you can assign those folders in the VE PRO Preferences => Plug-ins.

Second: Make sure that you start the Vienna Ensemble PRO SERVER (32 and/or 64 bit), you can find it in your program folder (Start => All Apps)

    Third: Directory Manager

Please open the Directory Manager (find it in "All Apps" (Win) => then "Vienna Instruments").

Remove all folders - then add all sample content again by drag and drop from your Finder/Explorer.

More information about how the Directory Manager works can be found in the video "How to use the Directory Manager":

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation.  I was able to get Kontakt and the VSL instruments to show up so that's great.  I wonder if part of the problem is that I've been moving libraries from the Mac to the PC by dragging and dropping rather than installing them.  Anyway, I think it's fine now.

I'm printing your instructions out so I have them on file if I get stuck again.

Other than this latest problem which was not the software, VEP 6 has been perfect for me.  I'm still basically lost on Windows which is part of my problem - I've been on OSX only for many years.

    Thanks again,

    Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

My suggestion: Take a little time to get to know Windows a little. I´m sure there are some quick overview videos available on youtube that also help Mac Users to get to grips with Windows.

  • Hi Paul,

Good idea.  I found an essential training for Windows 10 on lynda.com.  Windows is like a foreign languare to me.

I want to thank you for always answering my questions very clearly.  VSL provides one of the best support systems around.

    Thanks,

    Aaron

  • hey guys... sorry to but in on this, but for some reason Kontakt isnt showing up in my Vienna Ensemble Pro.  How do i add it to the plugin list?  I'm a bit confused because it was there until i went to PT 12 last week.

  • Hi Slowguy,

Just answered your PM as well.

On OS X, plug-ins are automatically installed into the correct folder, and there are no troubles with Kontakt 5.6 and VE PRO 5.4.14074 that we´re aware of...

    Best,
    Paul
