  • Sibelius don't play expression - piano staves

    Hi!

I have set up a Sibelius score of five staves. Stave 1-4 is for Choir and stave 5 is for Piano.
I use Vienna Ensemble Pro Device for stave 1-4 (Choir) and Vienna Ensemble Pro Event Input for stave 5 (Piano).

For the Vienna Ensemble Pro I use the sound set VE Choir and for the Vienna Ensemble Pro Event Intput I use the sound set VE Special Edition.

In Vienna Ensemble Pro Server I set up I route the choir like this:

VE PRO plugin MIDI In 1 (MIDI Port 1:) - MIDI Channel 1: Soprano
VE PRO plugin MIDI In 1 (MIDI Port 2:) - MIDI Channel 1: Alto
VE PRO plugin MIDI In 1 (MIDI Port 3:) - MIDI Channel 1: Tenor
VE PRO plugin MIDI In 1 (MIDI Port 4:) - MIDI Channel 1: Bass
VE PRO plugin MIDI In 2 (MIDI Port 1:) - MIDI Channel 1: Bosendorfer (Piano)

I name this setup as "CHOIR" and save it.

In Sibelius Mixer I open the interface for conecting Sibelius to VE. For the VEP Event Intput I select MIDI in 2.
I have also the "Initial playback device" to "Auto".

The choir plays the expressions like P, MF and F fine and proper, but the piano doesn't play the expressions at all.

As I unserstand shall Piano (Bosendorfer) also be albe to play dynamics?

    Can some pls help?

  • Why are you making it so complicated?

Just use one VEP instance (port), MIDI channels 1-5.

  • Hello Ketil!

For your setup you will need one VE Pro and one VE Pro Event Input instance.

For VE Pro load the sound set "VE Choir" and for VE Pro Event Input load the sound set "VE Special Edition":
The MIDI port and channel settings should look like this:

VE PRO plugin MIDI In 1 (MIDI Port 1:) - MIDI Channel 1: Soprano
VE PRO plugin MIDI In 1 (MIDI Port 1:) - MIDI Channel 2: Alto
VE PRO plugin MIDI In 1 (MIDI Port 1:) - MIDI Channel 3: Tenor
VE PRO plugin MIDI In 1 (MIDI Port 1:) - MIDI Channel 4: Bass
VE PRO plugin MIDI In 2 (MIDI Port 2:) - MIDI Channel 1: Bosendorfer (Piano)

Generally it is recommended to leave the output device and channel settings in the Sibelius mixer alone. Making settings there can mess up the playback. If you have already made settings there or are not sure, reset all outputs in the Sibelius mixer to (Auto).

    Best regards,
    Andi
