    Hi everybody,

    As with all sampled instruments, the character of the notes varies slightly. While, in general, this makes the instrument sound more realistic, sometimes this variation may not perfectly fit with the dynamics of the melody. Of course, there are many parameters I can play with, but the solution I would prefer is: select a neighboring note (one or two semitones lower/higher) that better fits and change the pitch of this note (by a semitone or two).

    Is there a way to do this? I want to use this trick specifically for vsl concert guitar, but I think iot would be interesting for other instruments as well.

    Hi Matthias, 

    1) Change the pitch in VI (use the pitchbend).

    2) Transpose the corresponding note in your MIDI arrangement accordingly => you will hear the same pitch, but a different sample.

    ouuups, that was simple. I just looked at the pitch range in the VI user interface which wasn't large enough to cover a semitone.

    I just tried altering the pitch via pitchbend and it really isn't as simple as it appeared:

    - the effect of a certain pitchbend value on pitch varies across samples. For repetition samples, e.g., I have to choose a different pitchbend value to get a semitone than for legato samples.

    - An even bigger problem is that for none of the samples I tried I could find an (integer) pitchbend value that exactly corresponds to a semitone. One value is slightly too low, the next is too high.

    Did I miss something?

    It actually is not hard to do.  In your sequencer (or notation program) you transpose the entire part down (or up) 1/2 step (whole step if using Special Editions).  Using you pitch wheel, in your sequencer, you then raise the entire part up 1/2 step, so the part sounds at the correct pitch.  You do need to make sure that each matrix is set to respond to the pitch wheel data.  It should not be necessary to do any adjusting of the individual articulations.

    Does the "Semitone" button in VI pitch or does it load the other sample?

     

    If I have a patch normal stac(a) and a patch stac with the "semitone"-assignment(b) to " +1

    And if I have the midi notes:

    d1 for normal stacc and

    c#1 for Semitone+1

    => will the same sample be loaded? Or does it pitch?
