Now I'm just throwing this out there... but I think it will (at the least) cause some pretty exciting discussion.
I've been working on some music recently which is absolutely intended for "CD" (it's actually for a contemporary dance piece which will premiere on Feb. 14th at The Place in London, for anyone in the area!), or at least, which is *not* intended for "live" performance. This is not really new to me, but using orchestral samples for this sort of work is since, until now, they've never been good enough to use for a "final product". Anyway, this idea of using VSL for pieces that are absolutely "virtual" -- which has been discussed in a few places, at a few points, on this forum -- is very intriguing to me.
Thinking about this more, and about *where* these pieces could really "find a home", I recalled that another software developer, cycling74 (makers of MaxMSP - cycling74.com) actually have introduced their own record label, through which they market music created by users of their products.
What does the VSL think about this idea? It seems to me like it would be very unique, for a sample producer, and could become a wonderful venue for both VSL and its users. Yes? No? Interesting? Silly?
