    I am currently using a korg ms 2000 as a midi controller and synth.
    Also, I'm currently using Sonar 3 and will be using Kontact to run the VSL. I'm at a toss up between buying the Solo strings and Mallets or buying the Solo strings and a nicer midi controller (m-audio 88 key).

    At this point, as nice as the new midi controller would look in my studio, I'm leaning more towards the sounds.

    Is there anything I wouldn't be able to do with controller I currently have and the solo strings/mallets?

    I recently upgraded from an oooooooold roland 66key controler to an 88-key sl880-pro from studiologic and I must say, its the second best purchase I've made for my rig in the past year next to opus 1.

    but, I should note that I've desired for a loooong time an 88key weighted controler since I play piano. However, having the expanded key area has helped tremendously with key-switching in VSL.

    I'd say its a toss up, which do you need more? Better access to notes or new sounds for use?

    Yeah,
    it's killing me. A guy that I usually by gear from is willing to hook me up with the new m-audio 88 key for $370.
    The synth I have allows me to change octaves, so I haven't had a problem in the past with range.
    I have three scores (high budget indepents) coming in the next couple months and am really interested in using the solo violins and mallets on a couple of them (kind of a Hitchcock/Thomas Newman thing).
    I am freelancing for a living, so I can't keep making purchases until I put away some money.
    I feel like this might do it for a little while. At least until the films are done.

    Besides range, is there anything else I need to worry about? Or, is everything else assigned and manipulated in Kontact?
