I was wondering, how should one think of the new MIRx The Sage character presets (now present under certain instruments after the latest MIR update), when using MIR directly as a plugin? (not with VIP or VEP).
What are they exactly?

The new Character Presets will be recalled automatically for all chosen instruments when working in MIRx-Mode.

MIRx mode will work in MIR Pro's plug-in version as well as within VE Pro, although the former will need more manual setup work than the latter, because VE Pro is able to "communicate" with VI and MIR Pro (something a conventional plug-in host can't do).

Did some more digging and experimenting. Here's one thing I'm wondering: I'm using many of the instrument presets (i.e the ones specific to VI instruments) for instruments that arent from VSL, such as Spitfire, Lass, etc. I found I got good sounding results, compared to using just the general settings (Omni, Cardioid and so on)
Would you think that the new MIRx settings will sound better or worse, using them like I do? (if that question is even possible to answer). That is, should I think of the MIRx settings as more tailored to the room, or to the specific instrument in that room. Where does the emphasis lie? For example, does the Room EQs for the different groups correspond to natural resonances in the room, or are they designed to work with resonances that are present more in the particular Vienna Samples?

The answer is actually straight-forward: For positioning 3rd-party instruments, the MIRx presets can be a good starting point. The use of the RoomEQ-settings can be helpful and will (hopefully) make sense for most instrument families. OTOH, MIRx Character Presets are tailor-made for a specific instrument on a certain position and won't fit any other signal sources, most likely. Switch to the "Pure" Character Preset to avoid overprocessing.
Be aware that instruments with "built-in" panorama and reverb are quite unsuitable for use with MIR in general.

Yes indeed, its been quite a challenge to get MIR to work with samples from different sources. Yet, I was forced to do just that when collaborating with many different arrangers. Using MIR was the thing that allowed me to get a consistent sound despite the differences in the sample material.
For example, when using Spitfire, a combination of their "dry" samples (which are not dry at all) with lots of MIR's wet signal, was used in combination with their "wet/distant" signal, with moderate MIR wet signal, and balance those.
LASS (dry) played pretty well with MIR I found. Other libraries were a bit hit and miss. But I would never have gotten such a good sound if it wasn't for MIR, so thanks!
Ok, I'll proceed with caution regarding the MIRx Character presets, unless I'm using Vienna Samples, but I'll try the Room EQs then.
