Sibelius and con sordino

Hi.

Im trying to get Sordino and nomal to play from one stave. In the Optimizing Sibelius Playback with Vienna Ensemble document it explains how to do this. I'm using the SE Plus libraries and Sibelius 7.5. I've just updated all soundsets using the latest soundset installer. Below is the section of the Document with [[[my questions]]]

Con sordino (mute) and natural sounds on the same staff

For the VE Strings sound set refer to page 12.

For the sound sets VE Special Edition, VE Special Edition PLUS and VE Woodwinds + Brass you can do as follows:

1) Reserve two channels for the instrument on the Sibelius Manual Sound Sets page, one with the normal program and one with the “mute” program. [[[where do I find the "mute" program in Sibelius? Also, I assume I'll have to hide the 'mute staves' in the score]]]

2) In Vienna Ensemble also add two instruments. Use the same channels you set up on the Manual Sound Sets page.

3) In one Vienna Instrument load the natural instrument, and in the other one the muted instrument.

4) To switch from normal to muted, just use the Technique Text “con sordino” or “mute”. Note: The TechniqueText command “stopped” for the Horns only works with the Vienna Symphonic Library House Style loaded. To switch back, use “ord.”, “normal”, “natural” or “senza sordino”.

Could it be that you are mixing up programs on the Manual Sound Sets page with Sibelius instruments?
The "mute" programs can be found after having loaded the VE Special Edition PLUS sound set on the Manual Sound Sets page under "program name".

In Sibelius only use one staff for the muted and the normal instrument. So there's nothing to hide. To switch from normal to muted, just use the Technique Text "con sordino" or "mute".

No, not confusing the instruments with the programs on the Manual Soundsets page. I have a soundset called "VSL Ensemble Special Edition Plus" and another called "VE Special Edition PLUS." When I swithched to the later, I now see all the String mute programs. Thanks for prompting me to look at the Sound Set list.

I assume I no longer need the "VSL Ensemble Special Edition Plus" (must be a hold over from earlier versions?)

Can you tell me how to get rid of sound sets I don't need any longer?

Hello Jeff!

The "VSL Ensemble Special Edition" and "VSL Ensemble Special Edition PLUS" sound sets come with Sibelius and are indeed earlier versions. If you want to delete them, you can look for files called "VSL Ensemble Special Edition.xml" and "VSL Ensemble Special Edition PLUS.xml". For some Sibelius versions these files might not exist, because they are integrated in some other files.
