  • Using Sibelius for Keyswitches?

    Hi,

I normally do my mockups in Digital Performer, with VE Pro. I usually import the music as a midi file from Sibelius, and I work from there.  Since inserting keyswitches manually is a very tedious job, I was wondering if using the VSL Sibelius sound sets would be a good idea. Wouldn't that at least put the keyswitches in the right place? I have all the VSL string libraries, Woodwinds 1, Brass 1 and Dimension Brass, as well as percussion.

Or is it not that simple?

    Thanks,

    Alan

  • Hi Alan

I have used the sibelius sound sets with excellent results. It allows me to tweak expression and dynamics note by note if necessary and I never used the keyswitching. I am very glad VSL provides these soundsets rather than leave it to a third party.

I hope I didnt misunderstand your question.

  • Thanks, Anand, but that is not really what I meant.

Sibelius alone can never be as refined as a real DAW, but I'd love not to have to enter all those keyswitches.

    Alan

  • I suspected that since you must have tried it already ;)

  • Hi,

I have now installed the Sibelius setup to use VSL. But if I export the midi file, I get a lot of patch changes, but no keyswitches.  What am I missing?

    Thanks for help!

    Alan

  • Hi Alan,

I've noticed that if I export midi from Sibelius using "the current playback device" that keyswitches will not carry over, but if I use "a different playback device" and set that to "VSL Ensemble Special Edition Plus" that the keyswitches do indeed get included.

Hope this helps. (I'm rather new to all this so I may be misunderstanding your issue.)
