  • String sound problems in Finale

    Hi!

I'm having problems with the string sounds while working in Finale 2014D at the moment. They worked just fine before (in the same file) but now something has changed... Maybe I have changed something without knowing it, not sure. But I can't fix it anyway. :-(

Sending a couple of measures of strings, the way it's written and also how it sounds.

I'm using VE Pro, VI Pro, VSL SE 1, 1+, 2, 2+. In Finale I'm using the VSL version of Human Playback.

And as I said, it worked fine before... I copied the measures and put them into another Finale file, but the problem is still there.

  • Hello Jonas!

Please note that the Special Edition Human Playback Preferences only work with the Special Edition matrices, but not with the Special Edition PLUS matrices. If you want to use the Special Edition PLUS matrices, you will have to change articulations manually with help of the keyswitch dump file we provide.

  • Hi Andi, thanks for your reply!

I double checked, I am using the (chamber) violins, violas etc, not the violins +.

  • Hmm, realising that the problem is there also with other sound libraries. Finale won't play repeated notes for some reason.

If you have any idea I'd appreciate it, but I realise it's Finale-related and therefore leaves your area...

  • Hi Jonas!

The problem you are describing comes from Finale 2014. When the first note of the repetition is played longer than the written note value, the MIDI Note Off comes shortly after the MIDI Note On of the second note. This way the second note of the repetition gets choked. This problem has already been reported to the Finale team. They replied that this comes from some settings in the Human Playback Preferences and can be avoided this way:
    - Go to the Human Playback Preferences/MIDI Data
    - Set Continuous Data to HP (Ignore Data)
    - Set Velcoty to HP (Ignore Data)
    - Set Start/stop Time to HP (Ignore Data)
    - Set Tempo to HP (Incorporate Data)

I hope this helps. For further help on this matter, please contact the Finale support team.

    Best regards,
    Andi
