Here is my question. Say I have a scale. I might want it played détaché, bowed as a whole, or else bowed in 2 or 3 note groups. For the détaché, my VSL libraries have short and long détaché patches, no problem. For doing the whole scale in one bow I use perf legato, with the notes overlapping slightly.
How do I get a bowed legato? I.e. the scale is played smoothly, but the bow changes every 3 (or 4, whatever) notes. Do I just make the duration of the last note in the bow stroke a bit shorter in the pleg patch? Or is there a better way to indicate a bow change without actually stopping the sound? String players work hard to be able to do this: change bow without a pause in the sound. But there is a definite difference between legato all in one bow and legato where there are bow changes.
Thanks in advance,
