  • GM Drums and VSL Percussion/VSL Jazz Drums

I am trying to map GM Drums to the corresponding VSL Drums. I have the Full versions of VSL Percussion and VSL Jazz Drums. I am having a hard time doing the mapping. The naming convention seems to be different. For example, I don't see any "Closed Hihats" in the Percussion library, but I do see it in Jazz Drums. I can't find open hihats anywhere. I understand these samples must exist in the cymbal set, but I would appreciate some clarification. Is there any GM Drum preset for VI PRO?

    Thanks!

    Nektarios

  • Hello Nektarios!

There are General MIDI VI presets included with the Jazz Drums. They can be found under PRESET/D - Percussion  PRESET - Files/88 Jazz Drumset/01 VI Presets/General MIDI.

More details about the mappings of the Jazz Drums can be found in the according library manaul.

The Percussion library mainly focuses on orchestral percussion. So no Hi-Hat is included in this collection.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thank you Andi,

I see more than one General Midi maps for Jazz Drums. Also, I do not see the full set being mapped (some keys are disabled).

    Where are the open hihats?

  • Well, there are three Genreal MIDI presets.
One is for sticks, one is for brushes and one includes both where you can switch with C1/C#1 between sticks and brushes.

In the General MIDI mapping three keys (F#3, G#3, A#3)are left out, because they are reserved to instruments which are not included in the Jazz Drums (Tambourine, Cowbell, Vibra Slap).

Open Hi-Hats (or to be precise they are halfopen) are mapped to A#2 in the General MIDI mapping. You can find detailed mapping tables in the afforementioned manual.
