  • Solo Strings I - Extended question

I'm currently realizing a sinfonia by Albinoni using Solo Strings I - Standard. It has a lot of fast scalular runs and arpeggios. So far, I'm doing ok with the articulations in the standard version. However, when I look at the articulations available for the extended version, it makes me wonder if I would be able to do a better job realizing this piece using them in addition to the standard articulations.

One articulation in particular that caught my eye is the marcato fast interval. My question is whether it would be more suitable for fast runs than using the non-performance staccato articulation that comes with the standard version.

Has anyone had any experience using the fast performance articulation in the extended version? I'm not particularly interested in the sampled runs but more the performance articulations like staccato, spiccato, and marcato.

    Thank you for any advice.

  • Hello Leslie,

I think  these articulations will indeed help a lot. I have just sent you a demo license to check out the Extended Library on your computer (you have installed the data already).

These demo licenses work for 30 days/30 starts.
Once the 30 starts are used up, you can recharge them as often as you like by clicking "Maintenance" in the eLicenser Control Center (within 30 days).

    Best,
    Paul

Thank you so much, Paul! I will install the license and try out the extended articulations. This is going to be fun! 😃

  • Hi,

I'm really enjoying the addition of the extended samples. I do have a question, though.

The PERF INTERVAL FAST samples presets. These presets are monophonic. Should I play with a legato style (slightly overlapping notes) in order to hear the proper transitioning between notes that I assume is taking place? Or is that not necessary? I've been experimenting, and the phrases do sound smoother with a legato style, but I wanted to check to be sure I'm on the right track.

    Hello Leslie,

Yes, the notes need to be connected to hear the faster transitions.

You can also get polyphonic legato, with Vienna Instruments PRO, if you like (demo licenses available on the product page).

    Best,
    Paul
