  • Bosendorfer Imperial Pedal-Up Close-Distant combination problem

    Hi,

I am trying to combine close and distant mic positions in Bosendorfer Imperial. While I am very happy with the sounding of pedal-down patches, I am very much disturbed when I play notes on pedal-up patches. I hear a ring to some (many) notes, as if they have a small detuning on close and distant mic positions.

So are the mic positions indeed recorded simultaneously or they are recorded separately? I am not sure if resonances would be the cause, as the ringing can be heard right from the start of the attack.

For clarification, I have made a rocording where I test on G#3 because I believe it is one of the worst notes when combining close and distant mics and pedal is up (although many others sound bad in my opinion). For this recording, I have loaded close (Bos-Imp_Cl) and distant (Bos-Imp_Di) matrices in two separate instances of VI which are hosted on VE Pro. There are no EQ or reverbs, just the raw sounds. All the notes are played with pedal up, except the last three notes which are played with pedal down for comparision.

Thank you very much in advance for your inputs,

  • Anybody has any idea? Has anybody ever combined the mic positions?

Maybe somebody from VSL can clarify on the recording procedure, if the mics are recorded simultaneously or not, or if it is possible to combine the mics in a different way.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

    Sorry for the delay.

The samples were recorded at the same time, but of course we didn´t have in mind to combine close and distant recording, so those are not phase-alligned, which may result in phasing issues.

I´m afraid I don´t have a practical solution for this behaviour.

    Best,
    Paul
