    In a previous thread a link was placed to an .art file to allow the double bass to be featured in the string ensemble. I've downloaded the file but can't get it to work. So far, I have gone to the instrument editor, loaded the string ensemble, loaded the .art file, then saved the string ensemble to a new .gig file. But, on loading this new .gig up into GigaStudio, it's no different than before.

    I'm obviously doing something wrong. I've checked through the GS manual, but can only find a cursory mention of what .art files are, and no instructions as to how to use them...

    I'd really appreciate some help as to how to get this .art file to work. I seem to remember Herb saying he'd be kind enough to post a 'how to' if it was required... [:)]

    I think you did everything right, Chopmy.

    But here a step by step description:

    1 load the "String_ensemble.gig" into the giga editor
    2 In the File menu select "Load articulation file..."
    3 Select the right artfile
    4 Now you should see in Instrument Bank 2 the following list:
    0 COMBINATIONS a2+3
    1 VI+VC+KB_stac
    2 VI+VC+KB_sus
    3 VI+VC+KB_trem
    4 VI+VC+KB_all
    5 VA+KB_stac
    6 VA+KB_sus
    7 VA+KB_trem

    Instruments 1 to 4 are now updated and includes the doublebasses
    below the cello range.
    If you select one of these new instruments in the bank window you should see mapped regions
    from B0 to D7 in the regions window.


    5 select "save" or "save as" from the filemenu
    In this case you can overwrite the old version, because the functionality
    of this new gigfile is 100% compatibel to the old version.

    6 Test the file in gigastudio: use the menu button "GS" (with an arrow above),
    it't the fourth button from left in the second row.
    The file will be imported direct to gigastudio.


    7 If you want to load instruments out of this gigfile using the quick sound database,
    you should check, if the database is updated.

    Ah yes - cheers. [:D]
    Previously I was loading the 'strings_all' instrument, which appears not to feature the double bass. The other patches work though. [:)]
