  • Thanks for the reply; I do know that you need the Roompacks for MIR to function. For the sake of absolute clarity, my question would be better stated this way: "If I buy MIR 24, are any Roompacks and/or MIRx patches included in the price?" PL

  • Hello plurye,

No, there are no RoomPacks or MIRx venues included, MIR PRO /24 is "just" the software, and you can add the RoomPack(s) of your choice.

  • Thanks, Paul.

OK, I understand now that MIR 24 is just the MIR software. But:

    1. Are a RoomPack's MIRx venue presets included within the RoomPack price? or,

    2. If I want MIR 24, a RoomPack, and the MIRx presets for that RoomPack, do I have to purchase the three items separately?

Which is correct, #1 or #2 above?

    PL

  • Hi,

The MIRx Venues work in 2 ways:

    1) as a separate product and download in VI/VI PRO - you need to get the MIRx Venues.

    2) as an extra feature in MIR PRO when you purchase the corresponding RoomPacks - BUT there are no MIRx Venues to use in VI/VI PRO (see above), MIRx functionality is "only" available within MIR PRO/24.

So if itΒ΄s ONLY MIRx you are after, you should get the MIRx venues.

If you want to get MIR PRO / 24 and MIRx functionality, you should get MIR PRO / 24 and RoomPacks 1 and 2 (for Konzerthaus and Teldex MIRx functionality).

    Best,
    Paul

  • β€’ Ah, so the "separate MIRx" is for use in VI Pro as opposed to VEP?

β€’ I was thinking of starting with just RoomPack 1. Is that a mistake? Is RoomPack 2 "essential"?

You can do either (neither would be a mistake). Here you can listen to a few RoomPack 2 examples (Wagner in Berlin Teldex and Berlioz in ORF Sendesaal) as well as a few RoomPack 1 examples (Mozart in Mozart Saal or Grieg in Grosser Saal).

  • Great-sounding stuff! Thanks. May I ask, which violins were you using at the start of the Lohengrin number?

Thank you. For Lohengrin I used Dimension Strings violins in combination with 4 Solo Strings violins (one for each divisi section).

Yeah, I figured. I can picture the money draining out of my bank account as I write this (I don't own Dimension Strings)... :-) May I ask, was there any MIRacle in there, or was the reverb all just from the Teldex venue?

Yes, I did use MIRacle - if I remember correctly, it was the modified preset Delicate Shimmer (whose name couldn't be more appropriate in this context... πŸ˜‰

Indeed! Now when you do that, are you reducing the decay from the MIR itself to very short? Or do you generally just sweeten a little with MIRacle on top of the existing decay of, say, the Teldex room?

Normally I'll first try out the recommended setting for the given MIRacle preset (with the MIR signal shortened as specified), but I'll often modify this if I like other settings/combinations with longer MIR signal better (or if they are more in line with what I am trying to achieve).

Thanks. Last question*: Did you use MIRacle as a master bus insert or in an aux/send setup?

    *Until the next question 😊

Have to open the project again to see 😊 ... I actually used three different instances of MIRacle (for strings, woods, and brass, as inserts on their group busses).
