  • Vienna Imperial and MIR

I have noticed that the presets used for the Vienna Imperial Standalone app always sound better than when I use it in MIR via Vienna Ensemble PRO.  Does anyone know what settings (mics, distance, piano preset, etc.) were used in the standalone app?  The piano sounds mnuch more present and clear and I would like to get that same quality when using it in VE Pro.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  • Hello,

We have used impulses from the Vienna Konzerthaus for the convolution reverberation (also used in Vienna Suite´s Convolution Reverb, IIRC) and rebuilt those with alorithmic reverbs as an alternative for improved performance.

Paul, are any of the MIR presets similar to what is used in the Vienna Imperial standalone app?  Could you suggest any particular piano preset and microphone choice and placement that would most closely duplicate the sound as it is in the standalone?  I can never get as clear and clean and realistic sound from the Imperial in MIR as I do in the standalone app.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

I´d have to check and compare, unfortunately it´s quite busy right now.
What did you try? There are quite some parameters that can be adjusted with the MIR PRO icon...

Of course positioning and distance to the mic also play quite an important role, so a full stereo position of a piano will always sound "superior" to a placed instrument in an ensemblem if you listen to the sound of the piano exclusively.... MIR PRO is a lot about integrating the instruments in one room, and that will always be a matter of taste.
