  • Notion 5 and VSL

I've been experimenting lately with creating sequencer staves in Notion 5 to control various parameters of VSL Ensemble instruments.

This recording is an example where I'm using CC data to control Velocity Crossfade and Expression in all 8 instruments of a VE Ensemble.

Notion makes this pretty easy.  Note that this recording was rendered straight from Notion.  No other MIDI export or DAW was used.

    Feedback always appreciated!

  • Michael,

    Really, really nice...

    I'm also N5 & SE user...

I never use curves just the traditionnal notation in conjonction with N5 SE Presets and I get very good results !

So I'll be very interested to see you N5 file and get explanations about your way to do things.

    Again your work is fantastic.

    Sincerely

    Alain LeBlond

  • Alain, thanks for the kind words.  I recognize you from the Notion Forum of course!

The CC Curves controlling velocity crossfade and expression add a whole dimension of color and nuance for the instruments.  It's very easy really, but let me know if you have any specific questions.

  • You still can't edit the curves manually, correct?  You still have to record them in each time you want to make an adjustment?  I love Notion as well, but that issue is an annoying one.  I'd love to see how you organze your file as well.

  • That's partially correct Brennan.  You can adjust the curves but not in any very convenient manner.  You can't "draw" curves.

I dfind in my work that most of the time it's just as convenient to re-record.  But then I've not worked much with DAWs where I can draw them in.
