  • No Human playback in Finale 2011 with VSL

    Hi all,

I've been roaming all over the internet, but cannot find a solution for this very annoying problem, which already took a lot of time to try and get it solved.

I've downloaded and installed both the VSL dump file, as the file with HP preferences for my Finale version. After that I loaded the library and attached some keyswitch expressions into my music. The thing is that Finale either doesn't read them (correctly), or the midi signals aren't recognized by VE.

Pizz., Sustain, Tremolo et cetera, nothing works and I need to prepare some demo's, so time is getting short here.

Does anyone know how to solve this? Any advice would be nice!

  • Hello Roger!

The Special Edition Human Playback Preferences only work with the Special Edition Volumes 1 to 4 and with the Special Edition matrices loaded. For all other collections or single instruments, please use the keyswitches that come with the Keyswitch dump file.

If you need more help, please describe in detail what you have tried so far and what exactly you have loaded in Vienna Ensemble. Do you have problems with the Human Playback Preferences, the keyswitch dump file or with both of them?

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi,

Thank you for your swift reply, it's much appreciated.

I'm working with Special edition 1 and have loaded the matrices in VE, exactly as you write below.

What I've done is attach the expression to the staff I want it to be applied to, but nothing happens. Also I checked if the library is linked to the specific piece, which was no problem. The keyswitch is added as an additional option in the expression window, so this also should be okay. I also checked if everything works in VE and this is also okay. When I perform some manual changes in VE, like manually switching to the different playing techniques, the piece then sounds with the selected playing technique while playing back my piece. Strangely enough nothing changes by the key switches I applied from your library, so I suppose something must go wrong with the output of the midi signal from Finale to VE.

I hope this helps a bit.
