  • [SOLVED] linking SE Vol. 1 Strings Plus articulations in Finale 2012c for playback.

I have been trying everything,..searching makemusic/Finale forums as well. I am able to go into Finale articulations and assign some and they work. The problem for me is I see these matrices having or showing the same key for seperate rows. Eg: perf-rep-legato shows "G#1 and directly under it is perf-rep-spicatto also showing G#1 exept for indicator on the Y axis(?) moves. I have 5the keyswitches/dump showing and all the notes?,..switches are there and named A1, A#1 etc. If Ive already got Perf rep legato in the G#1 Box and it's working,,...where and how do I put/assign the perf-rep-spicatto....and the others under it that also show G#1. Part of my problem/difficulties arise from the fact that this is all new to me and I don't even know the names of the tasks I'm trying to complete, which is hampering my abilty to look stuff up. Is this called expression mapping?,..midi mapping Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!

I am using Finale 2012c and SE Vol. 1, with the addition of SE Vol. Strings plus.,...in Windows 8.1.

    Thanks.

  • Hello Bryan! If you take another look at the keyswitches in the Expression tool that you have imported with the keyswitch dump file, you can see that there are also Control Changes (CC1) included. With these commands you can change articulations on the Y-Axis of the Special Edition and Special Edition PLUS matrices. Best regards, Andi

  • Moving horinzontally through the matrix is done with notes (C1, C#1, D1, etc.) and moving vertically is typically done with CC#1 (Mod wheel values).

So you may have to use two expressions, keyswitch and CC1 value expression, to move around the matrix as needed.  Hope this helps.

You can also create custom Human Playback expressions that have these values and correspond to real musical terms.  This is what I've done in some instances but I will say the dump expressions are somewhat more reliable.  In general I've found Human Playback and VSL integration pretty inconsistent.  It's very frustrating as my workflow is solidly dealing with notation and putting everything in MIR gives me a satisfactory soundstage but as I said it's not very consistent at responding to articulations and expressions.

  • Thanks Steve,

I've got this figured out at least it seems and also received help from Andi.Is there a way/pocedure in these forums to mark a question or issue as "resolved"?Thanks.
