    Hello,
probably I will buy some instruments from VSL. I think it's the best library to make computersimulations of my compositions, which are unfortunately never played by real musicians.

    I have two questions:

In my compositions I use accordions and electric bassguitars. Both instruments are at moment not part of the VSL. It's okay for me to use temporarily Garageband instruments or something like this. But long-term I need this instruments in a very good (VSL-) quality. There plans for a VSL -accordion and a VSL-bassguitar?

At the moment I don’t have money to buy Vienna Mir and the Vienna Suite. What is (from this two) more important to get a good soundquality? I have Logic 9 and I will buy in each case MIRx.

    Best,

    Ralf-Markus

    Welcome Ralf-Markus,

Don´t hold your breath for accordions and electric bass guitars from VSL, nothing planned for the near future (there are very good products covering this area already available).

For MIR PRO and Vienna Suite, these are quite different products:

MIR PRO takes care of revereberation and placement, a great mixing front-end for acoustical situations.
Vienna Suite offers great plug-ins for "traditional" mixing, and can be added to any mixing approach easily (also with MIR PRO).

I can offer you free demo licenses for both MIR PRO and Vienna Suite, if you register a ViennaKey with us and contact me at support@vsl.co.at, if you like.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Thank you Paul, for your answer! Next week I have an appointment with a friend, who will show and explain me Vienna Instruments. After that I will decide what I will buy.

MIRx is fantastic, but be aware that it is NOT a plug in. You can only use it on VSL instruments, beacause it resides in the VI (or VI Pro) player and is applied to VSL instruments pre effects bus. I believe that MIR and MIR 24 (which is the same as MIR but limited to 24 instruments) don't have this limitation. Check with VSL to be sure and demo them to make sure they work for you.

The suite is fantastic. I'd say it's comparable to the FX included in the Waves silver bundle that a classical composer would use, with the added bonus of having hundreds of presets for just about every classical instrument. The compressor and EQ presets make it so easy to get a great "life like" sound, which is really handy for me as I'm not a hard core audio engineer. (Before getting the suite I generally ended up doing more damage to my mixes with compressors & eq then helping them!) Also, the reverbs are excellent. Here's a link to some of the Suite Presets

I'd take up Paul on his offer to demo them both. And what you end up buying really depends on the style of music you write, what FX you already have, and how many instruments you generaly use. The MIR products are all about easily placing a group of instruments into a homogenous space with breath taking results (it takes "reverb" to a whole new level). The suite is really a more traditional FX bundle with the added bonus of almost all of the "tweeking" already done for you. Take your time with the demos and pick what's best for you and your music.

    Best wishes,

    Michael

  • Michael, thank you very much for your informations. I bought some Vienna Instruments and I'm using now the plug-ins of Logic Pro. My first impressions of VI are good, but it is difficult for me to learn it. Later I will buy Mir and Vienna Suite.
