  • Platform advice needed!

    Hi Guys,
I'm just about to move from hardware to software sampling. I run Digital Performer on a Mac G4, but am thinking about buying an additional PC (rather than Mac) to be able to run VSL's Performance tools on Giga. Without going into the whole Mac Vs PC debate, is there anyone that has taken the same step after exclusively using Macs?

I'm also used to having the complete orchestra at my finger tips (In my hardware samplers this amounts to a modest 416 mbs!!)....is this ever going to be a likely scenario with VSL/Giga....and if so, what setup would it take?

    Thanks, Andy B.
p.s. I know that there's a plan to release VSL for EXS24 on a Mac, but I might need it for a television series that begins before the release date.

  • Hey Andy

I've just done exactly what you describe - see my post on Giga / Ram / XP. It seems that it's possible to get a very stable system if you pick your hardware very carefully. Copy the system details of someone who has a solid, well performing system, and it should work well for you.

Whatever you do, don't copy MY system.. ha ha [:D]
It's not going too well for me with XP and Giga at the moment. though for others.. it's great.

Also, you'll need a whole lot more RAM than you're used to... though depending on how your system performs, you may be better spreading it across multiple machines.

    Good luck!
