Expression map : suppress articulation => suppress note ?

Hello everybody

I work with some VSL Strings and Cubase 7.5, and I fight with Expression maps [:)].

When I try different articulations, staccato... détaché... the note is selected. If I suppress an articulation, the note is suppressed as well. I don't really understand why both note and articulation are linked at this point... that once you hace tried to set an articulation to one note, they are sort of "definitely linked" together.

This is not the case with other Banks/Expression maps but I may do something wrong...

Hello Chris!

There are two different kinds of articulations in Cubase Expression Maps. The "Attribute" type belongs to one note and is over when the note is over. Staccato falls in this category. If you want to remove an attribute, you can either do so by clicking on it with the pencil in the articulation lane or by selecting the note and then selecting "None" in the top lane under Articulation.

I am OK with the first way, as for the second, I can't see any "none" somewhere.

In order to see the "Articulations" section, you need to

1. have the Info Line visible,
2. be in the MIDI (Key) editor window, and
3. have a note selected.

If the above three conditions are met, and you still don't see it, try right-clicking on the Info Line and make sure "Articulations" is checked.

In the Info Line, "Articulations" goes frome "détaché" "staccato"... to "accent". No "none" is selectable. When a note is Staccato, I have to "reselect" Staccato and then the note is w/o articulation (in fact Legato). I find it a little odd :)

That is a very important observation. A rather confusing aspect of working with Expression Maps is that you need to create a default, "non-articulation" to be used for turning off Direction-type articulations. This is necessary because last-used patch will always stay selected until another one is specifically called for.

For these reason, the first slot in all of my Expression Maps is named 'default' or 'sustain', and all of its articulation columns are BLANK. This way Cubase has something to revert to when no articulation is selected. I also use it to turn off Direction-type articulcations.
