I am brand new to VE Pro 5. Is there a way to get around the Latency using slave. I am using a 2014 Macbook pro as Slave... i7 Mac mini as master. Do I need a Mac Pro to make this work? I'm getting about 30 ticks of latency... really makes finding grooves difficult. Sounds like sludge. Once I record it and move is back it's great. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. It's so close...

  • Hi waxman,

Did you turn down the Network buffer in the VE PRO SERVER INTERFACE window to "0" (in the plug-in in your sequencer)?

This way no latency is added to the latency of your soundcard when you play live (but it takes more CPU power).

It´s a good idea to turn it back to 2 or higher once you are "only" playing back or mixing.

    Best,

  • Thsnk you yes... i did try that... not much difference. Is it possible to get no percievable latency? Cranking buffers down to 128 on host and 0 on Vienna. Is there any setting I need to change in the slave?

  • here are a few things to check to reduce latency using VEP:

    1. Host soundcard buffer setting
    2. VEP Network buffer (set it to 0)
    3. High latency plugins in project

If you have already checked all of this, then your soundcard is probably not giving you low enough latency. Replace it with something better.

  • To do tight live drumming I pretty much have to get my latency down to 64 samples in the buffer, and I'm not getting that with too much of a load, so I set that kind of composition up as drums first, more or less. You may well need more muscle than you have, depending.
