  • String Harmonic Glissandi?

Do any of the VSL string libs offer a way to do natural harmonic glissandis? I guess the most famous example would be 10-12 bars into Firebird Suite. If so, is it just a recording of the gliss... or is it -controllable-?

What I mean is... I've seen some libs where you press a key and you get a whole section playing, but you can't control the start/end notes or rhythm... it's mainly just for 'spooky fx'. I'm hoping to be able to control all that, if that makes any sense.

    TIA,

    ---JC

  • I can't think of any library that has a FULLY-controllable harmonic slide, and I also can't think of a library that has "legato" artificial harmonics, which would be very useful in my opinion.  VSL does provide a decent amount of recorded harmonics though--both Solo Strings and Dimension Strings (the only VSL string libraries I own) have sustained, staccato, etc.  Solo Strings also has glissandos, both natural and artificial. It looks like Chamber also has glissando.  I'm not about to start comparing VSL and competitors, but VSL has my other string library beat in terms of harmonics.  They're definitely average-to-well-above-average in that regard.
