Can I perform samples live? or just create music with software?
Hi forum members, I am looking for a good harp sound to perform live with a midi keyboard, for example at a wedding. Is the Vienna Symphonic Library Harps standard library meant for this purpose? If so, what are the requirements and what steps do I need to do so I can play my midi keyboard and hear harp sound. Thank you, BP

Sample libraries like the ones from VSL aren't primarily intended for live performance. They are software-based tools for music composition and the creation of demos and "mockups" of musical pieces on the computer.
However, it certainly is possible to use them in a live performance situation, to a certain degree.
You would obviously need a computer (in your case, preferably a notebook) and an audio interface with an ASIO driver, and would have to connect your keyboard to the computer (or the interface, depending on the used hardware and available types of in/outputs). You would obviously need monitors / loudspeakers connected to the output of the audio interface.
You would have to open the Vienna Instruments software, define your MIDI keyboard as the MIDI input device (it's probably already recognized automatically anyway), load your preferred Harp sample patches and that's it.
There's a ton of stuff you can do in the player that can be immensely useful for live playing. I suggest watching the videos on the Vienna Instruments (PRO) software to get an idea what it can do and how it is used best.
