  • [SOLVED] Vienna Ensemble Latency in Cubase 7.5

Hi guys, i'm currently using the VSL SE Bundle Vol. 1 with the usual Vienna Ensemble 5 (not pro) in combination with Cubase 7.5. Everything works flawlessly except that i got a pretty big latency when with all Vienna sounds. It makes some faster staccato playing impossible and i have to program every single note which takes quite some time. This even occurs when i put my ASIO buffe size to the lowest size (approx. 10ms in general). However, all other softsynths don't have that big latency. I'm using stuff like Halion 5 or MOTU MachFive 3. I checked a few settings in the Ensemble interface but nothing seems to work this out. Any ideas on how to lower the latency? Regards, Raab

  • just a guess, but the service interface defaults to 2x buffers.  Turn it down to zero (0) while tracking.  Obviously takes more system resources.

  • Do you have MirX? Having this turned on on an instrument adds anothers 2 buffers.

  • Thanks for the replies. I tried lowering the buffer to zero but this didn't help at all. Two days ago I upgraded to VEPro 5 as I needed it anyway and am currently only using it on one local computer (Windows 7). My audio interface is a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 which isn't the best in terms of latency. It's around 20ms in general but this usually is OK for most VST instruments. The current latency of all instruments in VEPro feels like half/third of a second which is totally unplayable. Does the latency increase with more channels? I currently have 25 channels in VEPro. If I use Vienna Instruments in Cubase itself without Ensemble Pro the latency is superb an playable. The settings in Ensemble are like this: Multiprocessing - 4 Threads, Plugin Latency Compensation Enabled. In the server interface the buffer is set to none but even there it adds another 5,2ms which should be OK! I'm really not sure where this nasty latency comes from... I know that some latency comes from the CPU which in my case is an Intel i7-2600k with 3,4GHz.

  • Short update: my problem is solved and I feel like an idiot right now. There was no problem with any setting in VE Pro 5. I had a pretty huge Multiband Compressor in the Master Bus for the whole Orchestra which had such a huge latency. Anyway, thank's to VSL for such awesome libraries and softwares! ;)
