  • using MIR Pro for huge mixing project

I'm currently mixing a piece with 73 stereo tracks of live strings, horns, and woodwinds. I made group tracks for individual section (like V1, V2...etc.), and each group I have inserted MIR Pro. There are clicks and pops when I play back my session that make me unable to proceed the mixing. My system spec. is i7-3970x with 32GB of ram, everything is SSD. I have both MIR and project running on my C drive. Also, my main sequencer is Cubase 7.5.3 running under Windows 7. I wanna know is MIR Pro able to used for large project on a single computer, or do I really need a dedicated computer as MIR Pro DSP? And how do you pro's system setup for using MIR Pro for mixing large projects? Thanks. WIlliam

  •  Hi William,

I use a comparable system for development and audio work. Using MIR Pro as VST plug-in (opposed to its VE Pro-based version), I can easily use 100 and more stereo-instances in Nuendo (which is quite similar to Cubase). Under "laboratory conditions" I can use over 150 instances without CPU overloads.

    Some things to consider:

    - What's the system's sampling rate? (Higher rates will increase the CPU load.)

    - What's the format you're mixing to? (Surround setups will almost triple the load.)

    - What's your audio system, and what's its latency set to? (... for mixing, I suggest to switch to 1024 samples at least).

    - What's MIR Pro's own latency set to in its Preferences? (... for larger projects, it helps to set the buffer to at least the same value as the system's latency.)

    - Have you de-selected Cubase's "ASIO-Guard"-option already? It can wreak havoc on some audio processes, as experience has shown.

    - Any "smart" Virus-checkers working in the background ...? 8-)

... if you still can't get to useable results, please get in contact with , including as many details as possible. We'll try to help you to hunt down the bottleneck you're running into.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Dietz,

Are you recommending to disable ASIO-Guard globally or only on specific plugins in the plugins info page (MIR Pro, VEP, VIP...)?

    Thanks

  • Hi FredB,

Dietz is on holiday right now. We all disabled the ASIO guard with Cubase, works better in our experience.

    Best,

  • DG, you are not nice with Dietz, he deserve holiday too !

As VSL is open 365 days a year they have to have support all the time !

You would not like in August a "Closed for holiday " on the main page of VSL site

What I will try is to put Cubase on one "small" computer and VEPRO MIR on your I7
