  • VSL composition competition

I just wished to congratulate VSL for holding this composition competition, and of course the winners and finalists. Hopefully this will not be a unique event, but will continue to be held anually.

I have a suggestion however, and that is to have separate categories for purely symphonic and/or chamber music, in order to foster and reward attempts at high art through your wonderful products, which make it possible these days for composers of non-gestural music (since very few articulations are available for such material) to simulate a very good realization of their conceptions.

    Well done!

  • Seconding Errikos' congratulations and his proposal - a VSL competition in concert orchestral/chamber music would be a very interesting endeavour with many potential participants. For that one, I would propose a jury winners list and and a separate audience voting list (voting on the VSL website). One could also give special awards for best VSL performance shaping and production work.

  • Will there be a competition in 2015?

  • That does sound like a good idea and could be commercially beneficial to VSL, as many people are using VSL for educational/artistic/personal musical performance as well as pro film/TV composing.    This is because with its design, it has become a new kind of musical instrument in itself - the "meta-instrument" of the virtual orchestra.   I think some of the really artistic performances show that it is not merely a substitute for live orchestras, but has become a means of personal musical expression and an art in itself.
