  • crash with cubase 7.5 and nuendo 6.5

    Hi,

    I'm using both cubase 7.5.30 and nuendo 6.5.30. (W7x64 / ssd drives / 16ram / rme fireface)

on some sessions using vienna ensemblex64 (5.3.13260) my session crash on loading.

this is how it happen :

    1-load cubase = ok

2-load session = all plugins loading / session fully loaded the edit window looks ready to work and suddenly i get message "cubase stoped working" and i can only clic ok then back to desktop.

after a crash like that if i do the same load i still get the crash.

the only thing to get ridd of it is to ctrl-alt-suppr and terminate all the vienna process in the task manager.

then reload cubase / session works fine.

    anyone have this ?

    thx for help.

  • sounds silly but maybe try loading the vienna stuff first then loading up cubase/project. It then has somethign to reconnect to.. your daw might be timing out trying to reconnect to the vepro session which hasn't started yet. i always start vepro first.

  • Hi,

thx for the idea. i'm trying this but the only thing i can load first is the vienna ensemble service right ?

i mean if i lauch the vienna ensemble first, then when nuendo is loading it loads an extra vienna ensemble (connected to localhost)

  • Hi vgodzillas,

You are right, the Vienna Ensemble Service is launched in the background if Vienna Ensemble is inserted in a DAW (and the Service stays open from then on).

You can send your Cubase Song as a zipped file to , with a short reference to this thread, I´ll take a look!

  • alright so thx for help...

after pain terror and lost of time i finaly fixed that problem.

i just removed the preferences from nuendo to get some fresh ones and now everything is loading fine ...

well i won't celebrate until i get a full week without crash [D]

  • Glad it is fixed.. What i i generally do is Open up a Meta frame with all my Instances pre-populated and have them all set to preserve. Then once all the plugins are loaded and ready to go I open Nuendo and it either re-connects to the already fully open and loaded Meta frame .. or at worst i have to connect the 5 or 6 instance vep plugins inside the rack.  Either way this seems to work fine.

I do get crashes on exit and also with 3 or 4 video i/o processes timing out in  activity montor other then that pretty stable once running in 10.10

And I am really pushing things.

If you upgraded Nuendo without removing all your Preference first, you should not attempt that in future. It is always safer to remove current Prefs, do the upgrade and then replace things like KC and Templates. This has worked well with all versions since N2, so I would always recommend it when upgrading.

    thx for the advice.
Well it's even worse i upgraded from cubase 7.5
and.. na i don't think i took the prefs from cubase.. but maybe :)
anyway it's not 100% solved. now i know it has to do with the prefs file but if i start with a fresh nuendo6.5 x64 folder
after changing some prefs the way i want (manually this time not loading anything) then i get the same problem.
I'm wondering if there's a specific pref that cause this crash.
but this time i have to continue on the steinberg forum
    thx again.
