  • Running MIR PRO 24 in 6 Gig RAM

    Hi all

I just thought I'd share this. I have a laptop with 6 gigs of RAM with a mobile i5 processor, and I downloaded the demo of MIR Pro 24 with the Vienna Konzerthaus roompack.  I have tried various combinations of instruments, and the performance hit doesn't appear to be all that much greater than for MIRx. I am currently using 14 instruments including Vienna Imperial (which is fairly demanding for a VSL instrument), and have so far had no difficulties. My processor hits around 60% with everything running.

Of course a more powerful system is still required to do everything I want, but I didn't expect MIR Pro to even open for me. So if anyone wants to try MIR PRO but thinks their system isn't up to the task of running it, it's worth downloading the demo [:D]

  • That's really interesting. I'd been wondering if MIR Pro was that much more processor intensive then MIRx.

What do you have your latency set to? And, what is your hard drive setup?

    Thanks,

    Michael

  • Hi Michael

I have all SSDs with the samples streaming via USB 3. The latency is set to 512, and the streaming buffers are set to 2048, except for Dimension Strings which is 4096.

I managed 24 instruments with the processor working at 70%, which is the same as I get with MIRx.

Of course I'm using MIR Pro 24 in the most basic way possible, and it would probably be easy to set things up so that my computer would be a blubbering mess [:D]  Still, it's a viable solution for working on chamber music, which is what I like to do most of the time. I don't like being tethered to a desktop if I can avoid it ;)

  • I am interested in MIR Pro 24. I am planning to run 7 vsl Instruments in the near future, of which all of them would be processed with MIR Pro. My setup is: Intel Quad Core i5-2500K CPU @ 3,30 GHz / 8GB Ram / Win7 64bit (no SSD) thinking of getting a MIR demo for testing myself but maybe somebody can "crush" my dreams before that :)

    Hi M Q S,

IĀ“d say, thereĀ“s nothing lost with checking out MIR PRO with a demo license.

Performance depends a lot on your workflow, setup and expectations, and for smaller setups, I believe you should be fine!

    Best,

  • As long as your audio system allows for quite large latency (1024 or above), and you give MIR's engine enough additional time to crunch numbers in its Preferences, seven instruments might well work on your system. RAM size (and speed!) might be the actual bottleneck as soon as you want to use Venues with longer reverb times, like the Vienna Konzerthaus Foyer, or one of the churches.

    A SSD won't help MIR's engine directly.

.... you should definitely give it a try! :-)

  • that sounds great. since i am going in a more jazzy rather than orchestral direction, i would add the studio room pack. so no really long reverb times. my interface is a focusrite saffire pro 14 and i am working with reaper 4. i think they can handle it, but will definitly give it a try. thank you!

  • wow, that sounds amazing! i already have the jazz drums and the upright bass. next on my list is the imperial to complete the trio. after that i would try mir pro. if i could get anywhere near that sound it would be great ;) thank you!

  • i upgraded my system to 16 GB RAM. next up is the imperial for christmas and after that i will try mir pro. hope it will work. the videos, many reviews and the soundfile here promise exactly what i am hoping for.
