Hi Everyone. Hope everyone is immersed in lots of great projects.
I had a question about whether I should switch my machines and make my DAW machine the slave instead...
I have two mac pros. both with 64 GB RAM. One is a 12 core and the other is a hex. Do you guys tend to make your fastest and most powerful machine your sample server?
Also I've noticed that even when I don't have RAM filled up (and have 12 or more gigs free) activity monitor still shows obnoxiously large virtual memory usage.
I'm guessing the occasional dropouts I get are mostly due to VM, and was planning on trying to remedy this by replacing my system drive with an SSD. (Currently it's a hybrid SSHD.)
Can anyone speak from experience if they've noticed better Kontakt performance with a solid state SYSTEM drive, (not the sample dive which is already SSD,) or if it ultimately does only just affect boot and load times?
And for you Mac guys, just curious what OS you're using and if you've found one being less VM or resource intensive than another? If you guys have any tips on reducing virtual memory that would be fantastic.
Best..
