  • Will we ever be able to automate panning in MIR Pro?

    Hi Team,

I was wondering if there would ever be an update to MIR Pro which would allow us to automate panning in MIR Pro. Not necessarily while mixing (which I understand wouldn't work because of pre-rendering) but while switching sessions. Again I'm running into the issue where I have to change sessions constantly and I'm having to sit and wait to load a different MIR mix along with all my samples.

    Hope you're all well.

  • Hi MOH,

I'm not sure that I understand your workflow. i assume you're talking about MIR Pro in VE Pro?

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Dietz,

Yes, exactly. In the Automation Panel in VEPro, I don't see an option for x/y axis placement in MIR Pro. This could save me a whole lot of trouble because usually my mixes only differ in panning and wet/dry level. My samples always stay the same, but since panning in MIR Pro is loaded with the VEPro session I have to reload my whole template every time I want to switch sessions. It's really tough when I'm working on one thing and then I get an email asking for an ASAP rebounce of another project. I have to sit and wait for the current project to unload samples from RAM, then reload the old project, then unload, then reload again. If I could automate panning I wouldn't have to close my VEPro template.

    Thanks!

  • I see. There are several answers to your request. ;-)

Basically, it was a delibarate decision to omit automation for any parameter which triggers the pre-rendering of new Icon-specific sets of Impulse Responses when changed: Instrument Profile, position, stereo-width and rotation are the most important ones.

As a MIR-user you know that in these cases the engine will have to interrupt the convolution processes for this Icon for a short time, which will lead to little clicks and drop-outs. Of course it would be possible technically to link these parameters to the DAWs automation nonetheless, but we really wanted to avoid the inevitable complaints from irritated users who didn't read the manual first. ;-)

That said, we _are_ in fact working on a new implementation of MIR Pro's pre-rendering which will indeed allow for dynamic moves of an Icon on a stage, with little or no artefacts at all. :-) This is nothing you will see in an update this year, though.

For now, the solution for you could be to make use of MIR Pro's "Channel Settings": When you right-click on a MIR Icon, the context-menu will offer  "Load ... / Safe ..."-entries (amongst many other options). The settings handled by this dialog will apply to the respective MIR-instnce only - no other instrument- or channel-specific data is included. In other words: You can build a library of your own favorite settings and come back to them easily. The downside is that this has to be done manually, which might be cumbersome in case of larger arrangements.

As an alternative to the workaround mentioned above, users of MIR Pro plug-in (non-VE Pro) version could resort to the DAW's own plug-in preset management, too.

    Kind regards,
