  • Spreading Dimension Violins over two SSDs?

I'd like to distribute my Dimension violins over two drives. Is there a way to arrange the files so that I have four violins on one drive and the other four on a second one? Failing this, is it ok to just move half of the violin files to the second disc? I want to try and avoid potential streaming problems when using very large violin sections.

    Thanks

    John

  • I'd also like to be able to do this. I've been working with DS for a while now, and it's become -hands-down- my favortine string library. However, it's also become apparent to me that writing for full DS ensemble pretty much can't be done due to voice count streaming problems. I can't imagine my system getting much faster--- unless I'm missing something or something is ill-configured in my system.

Any chance we will be able to do this in the future?

  • This functionality would be great but for different reasons in my case. I've built a small chamber ensemble that I use as the core of my template with Solo Strings taking the first chair spots. It would be great just to have the DS players I use on my SSD with the rest on my regular drive.

  • I should clarify, because I don't want people to think that DS is somehow unusable or flawed. I'm talking about ployphony when I also have a whole bunch of other stuff going too-- Dimension Brass, percussion, woodwinds, etc. And of course VIPro has unlimited bounce polyphony which virtually eliminates any polyphony issues.

  • Have any of you guys considered getting a SAS card and running 3 or 4 SSDs in a RAID? You should see around 2000MB/s read times. You can really push some data with a 4x or 8x SAS RAID. The enclosures might get pricey but I believe with an 8x 2 port card you could RAID 8 SSDs for a potential 4800MB/s. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure you can combine the two ports. Regardless I know SAS moves at 4800MB/s on an 8 lane PCIe 2 slot.

  • Do SAS SSDs even exist?

  • You'll still use regular SATA SSDs. Either you can use a SAS enclosure (which takes SATA devices), or use an eSATA enclosure and use a mini-SAS to eSATA cable. Very common. Look on OWC or Amazon for "mini SAS ro eSATA cable" and the other items.
