  • Disk Image ok for Backup?

    Hi everyone

I bought the VSL "Cube" package a few years ago and although I still have the original discs (and usb key) I didn't like the thought of installing each and every dvd again so made a disc image of my sample drive to another hdd to restore later should the worst occur.

I don't have another computer to test out my theory that I could just restore everything from the disc image drive though so my question is, is it possible to restore everything from a disc image or am I simply tying up a hdd unnecessarily as I'll still have to go back to installing the samples individually from the original dvds?

    I'm running Windows 7 incidentally.

    Thanks for any help...

    Simon

  • I don't know what imaging software you are using or your exact hardware setup. But if you made an exact image of the drive that your samples are on, and that drive has to be replaced, you would just install a new drive then use your backup software to restore the image to the new hard drive.

Personally, I use a NAS to send send nightly backups to. Also, be sure to be making full backups of your OS drive if you aren't already.

Oh also the USB dongle's warranty is only 2 years! So if you've had it longer then that, you should buy a new one, copy all of your licenses to it, register it and hold onto the reciept, and repeat every 2 years!
