  • MIR Pro EQ Feature Request: Post Room-EQ Master EQ

    Hi All,

Sorry for all the feature requests, [:)]

One of the issues I'm having concerns signal flow within the dedicated Room EQ in MIR Pro/MIRx (nice feature, by the way). Would it be possible to have a Master EQ that is post room EQ that affects all the room EQs? Sometimes I need to broadly cut frequencies from the entire room, and currently I have to go and apply the EQ to each section individually-- a real PITA. It makes it basically impossible to judge what I am doing because I can't hear things all at once.

I realize that I can send MIR's wet signal out seperately to a bus and just EQ it there, but there is a big problem with that...it 1) sacrifices the ability to bus stems and 2) creates a strange situation for level adjustment. For example, if I send Strings Dry to Bus 1, and Woodwinds Dry to Bus 2, and then route the wet signal of MIR to Bus 3, I've in effect combined the strings and woodwinds on bus 3 into a "reverb channel" (the old, "reverb-box" paradigm [;)]). Now, let's say I have a stereo return for Strings in Cubase: 1) it no longer contains the wet signal so I can't really call it a "strings stem", and 2) changing the level of the stereo return doesn't change the level of the Strings in the reverb since it doesn't affect the wet signal. All I've done is turn down the dry signal. Does that make sense?

I suppose I could do the opposite--- have separate returns for all the wet tracks, do room EQ there, and use the dedictated MIR Pro room EQ as a general EQ. However, this doesn't work with MIRx because the room EQs take place inside MIR.

Hope I'm not missing something! Have a great day.

To avoid misunderstandings: You can't access RoomEQs with MIRx; they come "built-in" with the respective settings for each instrument. This won't change in the forseeable future.

In MIR Pro, it's more a question of your workflow. I understand what you're after, but actually MIR Pro's RoomEQ is meant to be used for the all wet signals, mostly. This follows the basic "all instruments in the same room"-idea of MIR. The new RoomEQ banks (which allow for assignable, individual EQ settings) are just a refinement of this approach: You would start with one setting for all instruments, and only for thoses cases where you need to cut (or add) additional frequency ranges you would copy the basic setting to an empty RoomEQ slot and use _this_ on for a few instruments.

For now, the Wet Signal Routing is indeed the way to go. BTW: You can create as many "Wet Only" busses in VE Pro as you want, so creating stems shouldn't be a problem in any case.

... which doesn't mean that your idea wouldn't make sense. :-) I will keep it in mind, but please don't expect something like that to be implemented in the near future.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Dietz!

Cool, thanks for responding. What I did was route all the wet signals to separate wet busses, then put a VSL EQ on each bus and copied your MIRx room EQ setting to the EQ. Then I just deleted the Room EQs.
