  • Mac Master - PC slaves - VEP5 connection problem

Hi there, just bought VEP5 as it was highly recommended by people using master-slave setup, but Im having slight problems. I tried to connect my 2 PCs over LAN and VEP5 and it worked fine, although I had to manually type IP address of my slave (IPv4 protocol) into VEP5 server interface. Then I tried running my MacBook Pro Retina (late 2013, latest OS Mavericks) as master - I installed Cubase 7.5.20 anew on the machine, installed drivers and firmware update for my RME FF UCX - soundcard and cubase is running nicely, but I cant seem to connect the master to PC slave over LAN and VEP5. Have the same version of VEP5 on MBP and PC slave and I approved file sharing, I can see the other computer in network. I start VEP5 server 64bit on my slave and add instance with East West Play engine and loaded an instrument. On Mac I start cubase, then add VEP5 as rack instrument (plugin) - which is then server interface, but when i hit connect there are no instances visible, and even if I manually type in IP address (IPv4) theres no connection. Firewall is off on MBP and I have same preferences in VEP5 on PC and Mac. Havent tried direct connection with crossover cable, it should be working via LAN without problems as I have connected 2 PCs via LAN before, maybe its Mac-PC network issue?

  • Yes! got it, the problem was probably in eLicenser control centre - i had different versions on Mac and PC, respectively. Not sure if that was the problem, but after updating the version on PC and leaving IPs as they are (i.e. not setting static IPs) everything showed up on VEP5 server interface in Cubase - did not even have to type in IPs, PC was there right away, loaded HW Strings and it worked! Thanks for help everyone! lets see there won't be another problem ahead... NOTE: I have 2 powerful PCs, but currently don't have option for connecting 2nd one to router, is it possible to connect 2nd slave directly to MacBook? should be ok, right?

    Hello Peter,

Glad to hear that this is resolved.

If you have an available port on your MB, that will work. But I wonder how you connect the MB to the rest of the network then.

  • Hey Paul, Mac Master - from router to Thunderbolt (Ethernet adapter) First Slave - from router to Ethernet Second slave - directly from Ethernet to Thunderbolt (Ethernet adapter) on Mac is it possible? how should i set the IPs, so I can have stable connection and no problems. Now I have on each computer same licenser version, same preferences in VEP5, Firewall is off or allowing VEP5.

  • Hi Peter,

So you are using a router, that´s fine.

You should work with static IP addresses to have a stable system, all computers should be in the same network (e.g., 192.168.0.x).

    Best,

    Paul
