  • Violin Solo: How to sustain after legato?

After a transition, Vl_perf-legato is non-looping, so I'm wondering how I should go about making a note last longer than the sample? I could crossfade it to a Vl_sus_Vib, using the SlotX feature in VI, I guess? And once it's crossfaded to the Vl_sus_Vib, I could score it as a series of Vl_sus_Vib, to simulate a real violinist changing bow direction when he runs out of bow, I guess again? Perhaps there are other options I haven't thought of? Any tips from people who've worked through this already? Thank you.

  • I've used the crossfading trick in background parts before but I wouldn't use it right up front where it can be clearly heard.  Instead I would keep retriggering the same note since VSL's libraries have recorded same-note legato and it sounds quite good.

I hadn't realized that. It sounds simpler and better than the techniques I was embarking on. Thanks.
